A GOOD TRANSITION
Because of the intimate one-on-one nature of private music lessons, changing teachers is ALWAYS difficult. Even if the student is very excited about the new teacher, and has confidence that the new relationship will be a good one, there are many factors that make it difficult and which should probably be discussed and re-discussed throughout the transition process. The transition process is usually 6 months to TWO YEARS from the first lesson with the new teacher (depending on level, motivation and other factors).
Please read the topic pages listed to the left which outline the GENERAL approach KMI faculty take with all new transfer students, and describe the possible issues which are likely to arise. We fully understand that every student is different, and we take great care in addressing each new student's needs specifically and with an open mind. The topics outlined here are designed to help us identify the specific needs of each student, and whereas the general approach is similar for all students, we assure you that our application of these ideas is uniquely different according to the strengths and specific needs of each new transfer student we receive!
