VOICE
Styles of Singing

Classical, opera, Broadway, gospel, hip-hop, rock and jazz are only a few of the many styles of music that exist - and hence the styles of singing possible.

All beginning voice students at KMI are taught the basics of singing (which includes piano skills, music theory and diction). All good singing is basically the same. Learning how to sing in a particular style is a skill which builds upon the fundamentals of good singing.

Students are generally encouraged to explore all styles of music, and will certainly be encouraged to excel in any area they show the strongest interest or capability. This is expecially true for recitals. Students under age 12 are expected to study all styles of music as assigned by the teacher as a precept of good education. Older students (especially adults over 21) may pick their focus area and will not be required to explore every possible style.
