HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO HELP?
CLASSES: Parents participating in Music Together must sing and move with the other participants at every class. The children learn by imitation. Being a good singer is not an issue! Showing your willingness to play and be involved is! Parents receive a book and CD with each term, and are expected to sing with the child regularly. Most parents find that keeping the CD in the car is the best way to do their homework, as the child will want to sing in the car!
PRIVATE LESSONS: Parents with children ages 4-6 taking private lessons MUST attend all lessons, and must monitor daily practice and homework assigns. Most of the time the parent will have to explain how to do the written work, and may have to explain how to practice. The teacher will always give the parent adequate instruction on what to do - and NO prior knowledge of music is necessary.
(See COMMITMENT for more information on the ways parents can and should help their children succeed in music lessons.)
