Special Alerts for People not used to driving Pittsburgh Streets and Highways:
1) Ft. Duquesne Bridge: I-376 merges with I-279 North at the center of downtown Pittsburgh (Point State Park) near the fountain. Then I-279 North crosses the Ft. Duquesne Bridge to reach the northshore. At the end of the bridge (on the northshore), the highway splits in two: Left becomes Route 65, Right continues as I-279. It is important to merge to the right once you are on the bridge so that you remain on I-279..
2) I-579 & Veteran's Bridge: The Liberty Bridge and I-376 both connect to I-279 North via the connector I-579 which crosses the Allegheny River via the Veteran's Bridge, However, I-579 connects to I-279 beyond the East Ohio Street exit, and therefore misses the northshore entirely. Do not come to us via I-579 or the Veteran's Bridge. Instead, go through town on city streets or follow I-376 all the way to where it connects to I-279 directly.
