VIOLIN

CORE CURRICULUM

Primer: Beginning violin students are initially assigned Stringbuilder for Violin Book 1 and Musicianship for Strings (primer). For performance the student will be assigned Cornstalk Tunes by Stanley Fletcher.

Level 1: Students completing Musicianship for Strings (primer) will then be assigned Musicianship for Strings (Level 1), while continuing in Stringbuilder for Violin Book 1. The student will be assigned supplemental materials for technique and performance: Stringbuilder Duets Book 1, Building Technique with Beautiful Melodies Book 1, and Solos for Young Violinists Book 1.

Level 2: Students completing Musicianship for Strings (Level 1) and Stringbuilder for Violin Level 1 will then be assigned Musicianship for Strings (Level 2) and Stringbuilder for Violin Book 2. The student will continue with Stringbuilder Duets Book 1, Building Technique with Beautiful Melodies Book 1, and Solos for Young Violinists Book 1 until each of these books is completed.

Level 3: Students completing Musicianship for Strings (Level 2) and Stringbuilder for Violin Level 2 will then be assigned Musicianship for Strings (Level 3) and Stringbuilder for Violin Book 3. For technique, the student will be assigned Stringbuilder Duets Book 2 & 3 and Wohlfahrt Op. 54 (Forty Elementary Studies). For performance the student will be assigned Making Beautiful Music on the Violin 2, and Solos for Young Violinists Book 2.

Level 4: Students completing Musicianship for Strings (Level 3) and Stringbuilder for Violin Level 3 will then be assigned Musicianship for Strings (Level 4). For technique, the student will be assigned Wohlfahrt Op. 45 (Sixty Violin Studies). For performance the student will be assigned Making Beautiful Music on the Violin 3, and Solos for Young Violinists Book 3 or 4. Students at Level 4 will learn one of the Seitz Pupil Violin Concertos.

MUSIC APPRECIATION

The curriculum for Levels 5 - 8 is still under development. KMI does not currently have any string students at these levels.
