PIANO AND ORGAN DEPARTMENT
YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAM
The KMI Young Artist Program in Piano performance is an 8-year course of study that prepares promising young musicians for study at the nation’s leading music schools. Students are admitted to any level up to Level 10 based on audition, and the application process is very competitive. The final two years of the program are devoted to preparing the student for audition. For general description and the non-piano specific program requirements, see Young Artist Program section.
Admission: Students wishing to enter the KMI Young Artist Program in Piano must submit a completed application with fee and prepare an audition to take place between July 15 and August 5. The Young Artist Program is graded in levels from 5 to 12 and is coordinated to the PPTA Piano Syllabus. Therefore, audition repertoire selections must represent the student’s level of technical accomplishment and should be selected from the PPTA Syllabus at or above the difficulty level as specified below. All repertoire pieces must be memorized, and the student must bring all scores to the audition for the examiner to review.
